The present drawing depicts a twig of an (unidentified) tree or shrub (possibly a European Hornbeam) on which a small caterpillar is crawling. In addition to capturing the delicate veins of the leaves, Thuret has skilfully rendered the interplay of light and shadow across the curled leaves’ surfaces.
